Course Information
Description	The application of common algebraic functions, including polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and rational, to problems in business, economics and the social sciences are addressed. The applications include mathematics of finance, including simple and compound interest and annuities; systems of linear equations; matrices; linear programming; and probability, including expected value. This is a corequisite taken only with MATH 1324 in the same semester/part of term.

Corequisites/Prerequisites	Pre-requisite: See placement guidelines in LSCPA Catalog.   Co-requisite: Students must be co-enrolled in MATH 1324 for Spring 2023.
Learning Outcomes	Apply elementary functions, including linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and exponential functions to solving real-world problems.   Solve mathematics of finance problems, including the computation of interest, annuities, and amortization of loans.   Apply basic matrix operations, including linear programming methods, to solve application problems.   Demonstrate fundamental probability techniques and application of those techniques, including expected value, to solve problems.   Apply matrix skills and probability analyses to model applications to solve real-world problems.
Core Objectives	Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and/or visual communication. Critical Thinking Skills: Students will engage in creative and/or innovative thinking, and/or inquiry, analysis, evaluation, synthesis of information, organizing concepts and constructing solutions. Empirical and Quantitative Skills: Students will demonstrate applications of scientific and mathematical concepts.

Determination of Final Grade	PASS/FAIL determination will be dependent on your final grade in MATH 1324 as follows:   A,B, or C = SD D or F = UD
Course Policies
Instructor Policies	This is a co-requisite support section for students taking MATH 1324 who are not currently TSI compliant. Students in this co-requisite section must also be enrolled in MATH 1324 for the Spring 2023 semester. To fulfill the requirements of this online support section, students shall spend a minimum of one hour working with an online tutor during the week preceding each of the unit quizzes, using the tutor.com link in the Blackboard page for MATH 1324.
Attendance Policy	Since this is an online course and we will not be meeting in person, the rate and pace of attendance is left somewhat up to the student. It is the sole responsibility of the student to make sure that they are current and up to date in the material and to participate in all posted assignments and activities, and they are expected to do so out of their own desire to learn and succeed. The student's online participation will be observed to an extent, and for any borderline cases of assigning final grades, this record will be taken into consideration.

COVID 19 Information	The Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) Student Code of Conduct COVID 19 Policy requires students who have been diagnosed with COVID 19 to report their condition directly to their local health department. Students should also contact their course faculty to report their quarantine status. In addition, this policy requires all students to wear face coverings when directly exposed to COVID 19 in compliance with the criteria included in the policy. Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
